Why hello there!
This week I’m bursting with excitement because…BOOK THINGS ARE HAPPENING! As a publishing industry newb, I’m learning that you’re only supposed to share certain news at certain points of the process, so I guess I need to wait to share the specifics. But let’s just say I’m watching a big dream unfold before my eyes. It’s one of those moments that requires a pinch just to believe it’s real.
On that vague note, let’s get to the…
Creative nugget!
I’m interrupting our usual creative nugget shenanigans to let you know that Aaron and I did indeed attend the aforementioned concert just to eat the world’s best corndog. It was delicious.
And also to let you know that I’m now sharing my newsletter twice per month rather than weekly.
Every month, you’ll get:
One CREATIVE NUGGET that includes creative inspiration and illustrated nuggets about the process.
One AT THE KID TABLE that includes book recommendations, creative activities, free resources, and other fun tidbits to support kids and their adults.
I did this because I recently learned that 1) lots of you missed the AT THE KID TABLE vibe and 2) my newsletter has two audiences (creatives looking for community and kids/adults looking for helpful resources). This is my solution to better meet the needs of both.
Some creative inspiration
Watch: HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE (I’m a huge sucker for found family stories, especially ones with cranky old men who are really ol’ softies)
Listen: I WISH IT WOULD RAIN by The Temptations (I belt this one out at the top of my lungs.)
Read: MAIZY CHEN’S LAST CHANCE by Lisa Yee (I love a good story within a story structure)
Let’s cheer each other on!
The rest of this month I’m working on 1) making and sharing an illustration every day and 2) researching art history for a picture book in the works.
What about you?
I’ll be cheering for you and your goals the rest of the month. Until October!
All the best from your giddy-over-vague-book-news-that-she-will-eventually-share-with-you friend,
Rachel
