ABOUT AT THE KID TABLE
Hi there! I’m Rachel Michelle Wilson, a children’s book author-illustrator repped by Lindsay Auld at Writers House. My debut picture book called HOW TO PEE YOUR PANTS (THE RIGHT WAY) will be published with Macmillan in Fall 2024 (yay!).
This is what I look like when a professional photographer takes my picture:

What is this newsletter?
One of the biggest reasons I make books is because I’d rather sit at the kid table than anywhere else. It’s a genuine, messy, and hilarious space where everyone is truly themselves. We know who is having a cranky day, who cut their bangs with a blunt pair of scissors, and who has a story bursting out of them and just can’t take it anymore so everyone better listen.
I try to live my life like I’m sitting at the kid table.
It makes me a better, happier person. And to share this joy with you, I decided to dedicate a weekly newsletter to the people, books, things, and experiences that cultivate kid table vibes.
If you want more wonder, vulnerability, laughter, and creative play in your life, I think you’ll like this newsletter.
Why should I subscribe?
Twice per month, you’ll get a thoughtful, inspirational, and fun newsletter in your inbox.
Children’s book maker deep dives
Once a month, we’ll get to sit AT THE KID TABLE with some of the greatest children’s book makers of all time. I love taking deep dives into the lives and creative processes of famous children’s book makers like Maurice Sendak, Margaret Wise Brown, and Tomi Ungerer.
Whether you read these or listen to them as podcast episodes, you’ll come out of the experience feeling uplifted and inspired with practical tips and fun anecdotes to fill your creative well.
Kid table vibes
Once a month, I’ll share a KID TABLE VIBE feast of funny stories from my life, creative epiphanies about my work, and my adventures as a children’s book author-illustrator. This is one way I cultivate playfulness, wonder, and curiosity in my own life, and I hope it does the same for you.
Occasional bonus: Connecting conversations
When my schedule permits, I’ll share bonus podcast conversations with friends in the children’s book industry about their work, creative process, and advice.
A note about paid subscribers
Paid subscribers also get a shoutout in every podcast and post. For authors and illustrators, I will also share a link to their website or books.
I hope this newsletter offers you a space to let go and be messy. I hope it fills you with joy. Most of all, I hope it inspires you to notice and celebrate the kid table moments in your own life.
So…want to join me AT THE KID TABLE? I’ll save you a seat next to me.
