Rachel, loved this post so much! First of all, GREAT karaoke song choice! (Let me know if you want to go again some time--I LOVE KARAOKE! And I sing quite poorly, but enthusiastically, so most people enjoy having me along to lower the bar. In fact, I used to go with a group of friends every Galentine's Day, back in Nashville!) Second of all, don't get me started on Tomi--The Three Robbers is definitely one of may all-time favorites, too. And third, I had never read about him looking to “rehabilitating disreputable animals”--but I've told my critique partners several times that I love writing about pest animals but that almost certainly explains *part* of his stories' allure to me over the years (without me realizing it). I am blabbering--but thank you for all you shared! Humor IS an act of hope--so great, and so true!

This Tomi advice is just what I need! I recently snapped up a used copy of Rufus, which is wonderful, especially as I sort of have a thing for bats right now. Also, I can relate on the karaoke -- earlier this year my husband "surprised" me with a karaoke sesh that was 100% mandatory so THAT WAS COOL.
