Aww Meera, thank you so much. If you are like me, you may be feeling behind on all the substacks (and life things haha)…I wish I had ALL the time. But I just read your most recent post and absolutely loved it.
As always, so good!! I especially loved the Wanda Gág deep dive! I am ashamed to say I have only ever read/owned one book of hers (The ABC Bunny, which is lovely and hand-lettered by her brother Howard, with music by her sister Flavia), but am very much looking forward to leaning in now! :)
What would you name the toothbrush? Ohmygoodness, I could never name a toothbrush, or I wouldn't be able to switch them out at 6 months. (Though, to be fair, I keep my old toothbrushes for cleaning tasks.) So, see? My problem is being AFRAID to even name things, not what to name them.
What is the worst or best name you’ve ever given something? This was hard. I do call our house The Burrow, but that's because I ripped it off from the similarly all-ginger Weasleys. My son's names, Benjamin and Thomas, aren't unusual, but they seem to like them, so I take that as a sign of some limited success.
What helps you feel enthusiastic on the hard days? Singing usually helps.
What is one way that Wanda Gág inspired you? The teeter-totter between between what she owed her family and what she owed herself being such an ongoing balance to find.
Thank you so much, Elayne. And that is a great book to have -- a special collaboration between the siblings.
I relate so much to the fear of naming things!!! I generally don't name things at all unless I'm forced to...probably for the same reason as you. And all three of those names feel like a huge success.
Are you a singer? Or you just enjoy singing to your favorite songs? What is your go to?
OMG YES! And very beautifully put (you must be a writer ;) I related a lot to that as well -- she was constantly battling that "fire" inside her she talked about and other people's needs and expectations. So relatable.
Rachel,
This is a late response but: I loved reading this edition of your newsletter. Thanks for sharing so generously and graciously.

Thanks so much, Rachel. That means a lot. I am behind on....everything. :)
This was SO delightful! Wanda Gag is an illustration hero of mine, she inspires me so much! Thank you for doing this and sharing her inspiration.
Aww thank you, Eliza! It makes me SO happy to nerd out with people over kidlit heroes like Wanda Gág!

Ol’ cozy! Love it! I can’t wait to listen to this one. Gaga for Gág!
Thanks Taylor! Haha, now we need a club called “divine secrets of the Gaga sisterhood” 😉
