Oh hi there!
We safely arrived in Seaside, Oregon and the place is so cute. A little beach bungalow. I decided to tell you this week’s ridiculous adventures while sitting by the fireplace on a rocking chair enjoying the rain. It feels like FALL!
I hope you liked hearing about my embarrassing moment (at least I got to eat oysters), Annie’s new anxiety tactic of walking backwards, and our harrowing tale of being lost in the woods.
Also here’s a bonus random fun fact for you: Adam Rex was talking about roadrunners on his wonderful newsletter and asked if we’d seen one. I remembered it was my elementary school mascot and they had this super creepy taxidermy roadrunner in a glass case right when you walk in. I looked them up and check out the mascot…
It’s what Adam would call “a legally dubious facsimile of the Warner Bros. character.” (It’s an absolute knock off!) I can’t help but picture the probably very overworked person who was given the task of creating a mascot and one day during Saturday Morning Cartoons…
Anyway, I’m starting to work on a new picture book which is really exciting. Yes, I’m carting around my art supplies across states. Inconvenient but hopefully doable.
And since the podcast is on a temporary break due to the moves, I’m introducing a different perk for AT THE KID TABLE’s paid subscribers. I will share a glamorous VERY FALSE fact every week with the goal of making you (and them) smile. (Their name will include a link to their VERY REAL website or book.) From now on, you’ll find them at the end of each email (like the rolling credits on a movie type thing).
Alright, here we go!
The Glamorous Lives of Paid Subscribers
Joanna Rowland once went sky diving and discovered her parachute had a hole in it. Luckily, she is absolutely brilliant. So in midair, she patched the parachute by ripping her jeans and using her own hair as thread and landed safely in the middle of a slurpee festival where they gave her one for free for her spectacular performance.
Marietta Apollonio once chatted with Tom Holland about the proper way to produce a spider web from one's hand and he left so inspired that he changed his strategy before filming.
Thanks to our paid subscribers for playing along with my weird ideas!
Please read this in a cheesy infomercial voice: If YOU would like me to share a weekly (false) fact about you (and a link to your website, of course), you can become a glamorous paid subscriber…TODAY!
Thanks for sitting with me AT THE KID TABLE this week. As always, I’ll save you a seat for next time.
Your trying-to-embrace-her-own-silliness-on-camera friend,
Rachel
Great stories. I enjoyed your video. Your dog is funny but it’s sad that come from anxiety. My cat only recently started hiding from storms and I wish there was a way I could help her. Not for the first time do I wish she could speak English.
Thanks for sharing! I love hearing all about your adventures. Have fun and safe travels!🤗
