Breaking news…letter update
I’ve been conducting an experiment the past few months to figure out how I want to do this whole “social media” thing. Here’s what I learned:
Though I enjoy reviewing books, writing blog posts, and creating activities, all those things took a lot of time, and I burned out quickly.
I love making creative nugget adventures about what I’m discovering throughout my creative journey!
Illustration challenges are really hard to start. I’d rather be a participant than an instigator in this arena.
I love making funny videos like this one. I’ll probably make more down the road.
With all this in mind, I decided to change the name of the newsletter to CREATIVE NUGGET. Every Tuesday, you’ll now receive one illustrated creative nugget adventure and one recommendation for something that brought me joy (and will hopefully bring you joy, too).
Well, that’s the breaking news…letter update. I feel so grateful for this space to connect with all of you. Thanks for being here with me!

One thing that brought me joy this week
I finally did the #transmundanetuesday art challenge by children’s book author-illustrator Carson Ellis! (I highly recommend signing up for her newsletter.) Each week she picks three different characteristics for the prompt. This week’s prompt was: 1) part goat, 2) wearing leaves, and 3) holding a bundle of sticks. Can you sense the joy I felt creating this lil’ illustration?
What brought YOU joy this week?
Thanks for reading this week’s CREATIVE NUGGET. (I will miss saying “I’ll save you a seat AT THE KID TABLE,” but I hope you still know that I’ll always save you a seat.)
Happy creating,
Rachel
I went to a writing workshop recently that talked about writer's block being some version of fear. One of the suggestions was to "learn from it." Your brain has stopped you for a reason, what's it trying to tell you? Think of writer's block as a learning opportunity, and less as a block. I thought that was helpful!
