Happy October!
I’m so excited about the cooler temperatures, colorful leaves, and creative costumes. Yes, I’m one of those obnoxious “Fall is my favorite time of year — yay pumpkin flavor” people.
This week at the kid table, we’re getting VULNERABLE (with a hint of ridiculousness, of course).
As I’ve been wrapping up my debut book, I’ve had a feeling of dread. And I finally figured out why: my fear of being seen. So…let’s dive into googly eyes, vulnerability hangovers, the impact of our personal lives on art, and the power of the color pink.
A few takeaways:
The job of a creative is to dive into the depths of our hearts and return to the group with our (often universal) discoveries. We transform our journeys into stories to offer others a way into their hearts.
The risk of putting our hearts into our work is the risk of being SEEN (or really MIS-SEEN). Each one of us has to decide if the risk is worth it…again and again for everything we share.
We share our work for those who will see us and those who will feel seen by our work.
As we share, we are offering pink to a world of green.
If you didn’t get enough googly eyes in my video, please watch this beloved clip of Christopher Walken called “Indoor Gardening Tips From A Man Who’s Very Scared of Plants.”
And here is a song that captures how I feel creating alone in my studio: IN THE GARAGE by Weezer.
Other than this big epiphany, things are moving along here. Aaron got a job (yay Aaron!) and now we’re working on the preapproval process so we can maybe, just maybe, buy our very first home. The stress of looking for a home (plus a new job plus a new book plus not having a home base) is making us all a bit anxious-cranky. But we’re also VERY grateful for and excited about the possibilities.
Thanks for sitting with me AT THE KID TABLE this week. As always, I’ll save you a seat next to me for next time.
(Also don’t forget to check out this week’s glam facts below.)
Your trying-to-be-brave-pink friend,
