Trusting yourself: Mel Fell
Today’s picture book pick is…
Mell Fell
Written and illustrated by Corey R. Tabor
Published by Balzer + Bray in 2021
Summary
Despite everyone’s worry (including her own), Mel decides to fly for the first time ever while her mom is away.
First line
“One day, when Mama was away, Mel decided it was time to learn to fly.”
Favorite line
“I’m flying! I’m flying!”
This book is brilliant in every possible way. A fresh take on doing something you are afraid of, Corey used the book’s physical form to capture Mel’s fall and (hopefully) triumph.
Not only are we rooting for Mel, we are falling in love with the adorable creatures trying to catch her as she falls. I would highly recommend this humorous and innovate story.
