Hi there!
Aaron and I don’t really like Valentine’s day; all the expectations stress us out. So we skip it and celebrate our engagement anniversary on February 23 instead. With steak.
Don’t get me wrong, I love love. I just don’t like being told when and how to celebrate that love. So today I’m celebrating valentine’s my way…
…WITH OVER-THE-TOP MUSIC VIDEOS!
Ready to laugh about love? I had a feeling you might be.
Disclaimer: this is all meant to be in the spirit of fun — I appreciate these musicians and their creativity and how they dance like no one is watching. But also sometimes it’s funny. Especially if it was made in the 80s.
1) Total Eclipse of the Heart (literal version)
This is one of the strangest music videos ever (I’m sure it is very symbolic and packed with meaning way above my ahead); I love watching this literal version unfold. You can’t go wrong with glowing eyes and feathered hair and frantic dancing.
2) Start Me Up by The Rolling Stones
Mick dancing in a tight purple shirt. With confidence. The beginning is wonderful.
3) Obsession by Animotion
Halloween costumes and singing your heart out on the bed and a jester who makes everything his musical instrument…I’m obsessed.
3) The Look of Love by ABC
Just a typical afternoon in the park. Flying nuns, puppets, a man eating spaghetti very normally. Nothing to see here.
And one last one (for adults only) that makes me laugh: Business Time by Flight of the Conchords.
Okay, I spent way too long watching music videos. I hope you enjoyed them. If you have a favorite to share, you know where to find me.
I hope we all continue filling the world with silly love songs. A world full of over-the-top, 80s-back-lit, dancing-with-all-you’ve-got people and music and expression is the only type of world I want to live in.
Thanks for being here with me AT THE KID TABLE. As always, I’ll save you a seat next week.
Your love-loving friend,
Rachel
