Welcome to the kid table!
This week I’m doing something a little different, because this week I got to do something extra special. I’m sharing my joy with the hope that it will bring you joy.
Creative nugget (sort of)
I remember the moment it became cool to not like things. It was the day my elementary class turned against Barney. I couldn’t understand why my friends were connecting over their shared hate for him (how dare they!), and it hurt my heart. The hate became so loud, it got its own wikipedia page.
I kept my feelings to myself, because admitting my love for something suddenly felt scary and vulnerable. And if you pay attention to adult conversations, it still is. People find it easier to hate a TV show than to love it. Or a book. Or a song. Or a beloved character from my childhood.
But I believe it’s important to let yourself love things. There’s already enough hate in the world to not let yourself love what you love.
So I interrupt our weekly creative nugget with a declaration.
I love EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE.
And I’m not exaggerating when I say, I’ve waited my whole life to attend a concert in person (well technically since I was like…2 but you get the idea).
Well, here I am (with the one and only Aaron).
This close to…
EARTH, WIND, AND FIRE!
And look who else was there….SANTANA!
They said their mission was to spread JOY.
Well, mission accomplished. I definitely felt it. So much that I danced and cried happy tears (and I’m not just saying that haha).
My Barney-loving child self was there, too. Grooving without any reservations.
I love to love.
Share something that brings you joy!
Thanks for indulging my tribute and photo drop. As always, I’ll save you a spot next week AT THE KID TABLE!
Happy creating,
Rachel
Your post and pics filled me with joy too! Thank you! I grew up listening to E W & F and they've always been a favorite band. My late husband and I saw their 50th anniversary show in 2019. Fantastic and soooo fun! One if my best memories.
Yes, let us unashamedly share what we love and take a break from hate.
Review the lyrics of 'That's the way of the world'. They mirror much of your well-expressed sentiment.
I love this photo drop, and I love that you got to experience something that brought you so much joy! Earth, Wind & Fire is the real deal! Also, I secretly liked Barney too, but I was on the older side so I REALLY couldn't admit I liked Barney. I totally loved it when my neighbor (4 years younger than me) watched, so I "had" to watch too :)
