Hi there!
I’m writing this from my bed, my permanent home all weekend as I either caught a horrible stomach bug or ate poisoned food (sounds way more dramatic written that way haha). It’s been a great time to rewatch Veronica Mars (are you team Duncan, Logan, Leo, Wallace, or Weevil?) But it’s also been kinda miserable.
Luckily I’m feeling a bit better today, and rather than send you a fuzzy-brain post, I thought this could be a fun time to get to know you better. There’s been a lot of new subscribers lately, and whether you are new here or an OG, I’d love to hear from you.
How is your year going so far?
What creative stuff are you into lately?
What do you hope to get from this newsletter?
You can reply to this email with your response or leave a comment. And just in case you didn’t catch it, the most important question is actually the Veronica Mars one.
Here is something funny that my friend Kaly Quarles sent me today.
Newsletter experts (whoever they are) say one should be consistent. One should pick a narrow topic and stick to it. One should set clear expectations. Subscribers like knowing what they are going to get when they sign up. And I totally get that but also…I am interested in so many things! That’s why I’m an author and an illustrator. I’m so curious about everything that I needed TWO ways to process it all ;)
Since starting this newsletter last year, I’ve experimented with it a lot, trying to figure out what the cannoli I want to do with it. I’ve done personal essays, illustrated stories starring me as a chicken nugget, kid-friendly activities, art challenges, book and movie recommendations, video presentations, podcast interviews, and now my Learn From the Greats studies (currently William Steig).
For those who have been here a while, what have you enjoyed the most?
I guess that’s why I chose to call my newsletter AT THE KID TABLE; it includes my obsession with picture books and love of creativity and the stuff I learn from others who also love to sit at the kid table.
When I really dig down deep, the reason why I make this little newsletter is because I love CONNECTING with you. I love reading your comments. I love hearing about what you are working on. I love geeking out over picture books with you.
So I just want to say thanks for being here. I really do appreciate you sitting with me AT THE KID TABLE.
If I may leave you with one piece of advice…please avoid poisoned food.
Your always-full-of-great-life-advice friend,
Rachel
I am kind of embarrassed that I am team Logan. I discovered Veronica Mars after it was all over, which allowed me to binge watch the entire thing.
I hope you feel better soon (but BINGE WATCHING!)
Yikes! Did poisoning does suck! Hope you feel better!
