A lovable jerk: Chez Bob
Today’s picture book pick is…
Chez Bob
Written and illustrated by Bob Shea
Published by Little, Brown and Company
Summary
A lazy alligator wants to eat well and get rich, so he opens a bird restaurant on his nose.
First line
“Bob worked very hard at being lazy.”
Favorite line
“Welcome to Chez Bob, which is a real restaurant and not a trick.”
This is hands down the best title ever. Chez Bob by Bob Shea? Leave it to Bob to make you laugh right on the cover.
I continued to laugh on every page like when a bird takes his time pouring over a menu that only offers one choice (birdseed) or when birds fly in “to eat on Bob’s face”, or when the birds build a public transportation system despite their ability to fly.
Bob’s speciality is writing lovable jerks and those are my absolute favorite kind of books. I thought he pulled off the character arc splendidly.
